How to Color Block Like a Lady

What do you do when you see a trend that you’re intrigued by, but feels a bit too bold either for your personal taste or your office place? Color blocking -- pairing two bright colors together, a royal blue blouse and orange slacks perhaps -- is a popular trend. It’s cheeky and fun, but lately I’ve been encouraging my clients to try my new spin on it: hue-on-hue.

Instead of going for colors opposite each other on the color wheel such as orange and blue, peruse your closet for hues near one another such as this ensemble of chartreuse, mint, teal and peacock.

Blue is the most common color in wardrobes, so look for shades of blues, greens and purples. I also love playing with pinks, oranges and reds.

Late this summer the sweet girls over at Verily Magazine invited me to a conversation about women in media at the Bauble Bar pop-up shop. That’s when I picked up these two necklaces, which I stacked right on top of each other. The bottom necklace actually was a bit too short, so for the moment I’ve used a gold bracelet to act as an extender {using the clasp from each to clasp onto the other piece}, & then when I’m back in NYC I’ll pop over to my jeweler & have him add some extra links.

Remember, you control your closet! Can you think of two necklaces you can layer together to make something extra remarkable? How about a necklace you can elongate by attaching it to a bracelet? And which piece that you love can you take to “shop your closet” & find a pairing for it in a similar hue?
