Flattering Fall Style

Today's 2-Part Fashion Cocktail is about the balance between oversized and slim.

A few years ago I never would have worn this top because it "doesn't do anything for my figure". Now, first of all I confess to having a more realistic body images thanks to all the hours I've spent working with my clients and better understanding how we see our bodies.

Second, I understand the power of the "V" shape. When a piece like this colorblock top doesn't show off my waist, I can still give it a hint of feminine shape by using a necklace or scarf to mimic that elongating shape our cleavage or a v-neck top naturally creates.

And finally, I know that the way to not let an oversized piece swallow you is to make sure you're pairing it with a very slim silhouette. As we head into winter right around the corner and all those marvelously cozy sweaters, this is a great cocktail to remember. Skinny pants, straight leg jeans, pencil skirts -- you can wear a large sweater without looking like a large person if you anchor the narrowness of your shape on the bottom.

In other news, I cannot get enough of pinks right now. Perhaps it's the color palette of my new website? But I say fooey to any old ideals that say rusty pumpkin and forest green are fall hues. Bring on the the blush, coral, salmon, hot pink and any other color that keeps your summer glow alive.

What's one piece in your closet that you've had trouble wearing because it made you feel shapeless or larger than you are? What accessories do you already own that you can anchor it with, and/or what narrow bottoms can you pair it with? Type it out in the comments below and I promise it will help you remember better when you're getting dressed pre-coffee tomorrow morn!
