It's Black + White

Two years ago my dapper, joyful, larger-than-life friend Sunday passed away suddenly. Last year for the one-year-anniversary gathering I knew a bow tie was in order to celebrate, so I found a new way to sport one: left loose like beau’s tux after a long night of dancing, thinking of it almost like a statement necklace. {Previous ways to sport one of B’s bow ties include as a headband and a belt.}

One of my tips for pulling off things that go outside the box, is to keep it in the black and white palette.

Despite stripes, polka dots, sheer and bow ties, the classic colors in this ensemble keeping me feeling chic, not crazy, in this playful ensemble.

By the way, these shorts net me so many compliments, show off my waist with a button down tied or tucked in, and are darling worn over my black bikini around the beach. If you’re convinced high-waisted isn’t for you, just humor me and try them on with a trusted fashionable friend.

As much as everyone thinks they draw attention to your not-perfectly-flat stomach, they actually emphasize the narrowness of your waist, making your feminine curves look far more lovely than you imagined.

After three and a half marvelous weeks in Los Angeles, I’m coming home to Brooklyn this week ... with the second draft of my book underway! I’m punch drunk after this incredible spell I had to write and bursting at the seams to share all that’s going to come in the next few months, so make sure to hop on Honor Society and be the first to know!

P.S. As if appearing in the September issue of Better Homes and Gardens wasn’t sweet enough, the BHG gals have invited me to be one of just 50 bloggers at their Style Makers Workshop in NYC this week! Follow along on Instagram and Twitter {both @HilaryRushford} to get an inside peek at their offices, what they’re dreaming up next, plus some of my favorite bloggers I can’t wait to hang out with.
