Spring Style 2013

Y'all know that I love a sartorial challenge. I love to stretch my creativity when in comes to my closet & making the most of what I already have. Here's the two feel-free-to-steal-em tips from today's style post.

1. Make Your Summer Wardrobe Work in Winter

This sheer, brightly colored maxi skirt feels perfect come spring & summer. But I want to wear as much of my clothing as possible 12 months a year. So to keep it winter appropriate I paired it with the dark rich colors of this winter plaid shirt & added a fur for extra cozyness. Now it feels perfectly seasonally appropriate. And then to make it wearable, I layered warm navy tights underneath, with extra warm socks over those inside my boots.

2. Take Advantage of the Inbetween Times

While it's still very much winter here in NYC, spring is just around the corner. I really try to pay attention in spring & fall for those few weeks of inbetween weather. When it just starts to be warm enough that you don't have to wear a coat, but is still quite crisp, that's the time when you can wear a fur collar all day long. Wear your flannel shirts. Layer tights under your skirts & dresses. Enjoy the chance to layer & actually be seen in those layers while walking about because they're not hidden under a coat. And stave off the temptation to bare the chill with bare legs, as you'll have months of summer to do just that.

I'm so excited to introduce you to Bethany Michaela Photography! She's just joined the Dean Street Society team as our resident photographer & thanks to her I'll now be bringing you a new style post every Monday! So drop by on Monday's & get some inspiration for those mid-week slump days when you're staring bleary-eyed at your closet. I've got your back, bettys.

Also, this is my god-dog, Jolene. I became a Fairy GodNeighbor a few months ago & if you ever see us walking in Brooklyn, please say hello. We both like new friends. Also, he collar on this day was plaid. Which was not planned. We are just such good friends that we read each other's minds like that.
