Sunday. Best.

One evening in September our friend Sunday suddenly passed away from a brain aneurysm. He was that guy who lit up a room, could make you smile from a block away, & had boundless contagious energy. Our community was heartbroken & continues to process, writing notes to him on his Facebook page.

In October we gathered to celebrate his life in our "Sunday Best" of fascinators, feathers & furs plus more bow ties than you've ever seen in one auditorium. He would have been so honored. To him, style was joyful & fun, which is a pretty great way to walk into a room.

Friends walked a red carpet, left notes on an inspiration board of Sunday's style & received color handkerchiefs embroidered with his "Your Sunday Best" monogram. I carry one in my purse & another rests in a tea cup on my dresser.

Dear Sunday, I think about you oh so often. When I'm having a moment of feeling less than truly joyful, I think of how you genuinely lived to the fullest every day you were given. Sometimes I can still hear you calling out down the street "Yessss ... ladies & gentlemen, Hilary Rushford, giving it to us today & killing it!" about an outfit I put on in the morning. And when certain songs come on I picture you as the most full-out dancer in heaven.

Do you have a friend that inspires you to dress & live more joyfully? Share it out loud here, because life is truly too short to not honor the people we love.
