Once upon a time, a Dean Street Betty spent the day at a museum. She was going to be around lovely & ladylike things, wandering the halls of an old manor house where perhaps a duchess once lived, or certainly a lady of a certain social grace. And thus, she did one of my favorite things: she made an excuse; she made her own story. She dusted off the fancy outfit hanging in the rear of her closet that rarely gets worn, & she spent the afternoon pretending Downton Abbey was real life ... styled in modern day.

Want to pull off a similar style at a holiday party this month? Keep an over-the-top piece like this sequin crop from feeling too much by pairing it with something clean & classic like a neutral pencil skirt. Then keep it from feeling like something your grandmother could have worn, by styling it with modern heels in an unexpected color & chunky jewelry. Have a piece you're struggling to pull off this season? Leave it on the Facebook page & I'll suss out some options for you to pair it with!
P.S. What's hanging in your closet just begging for an excuse to be worn & a story to be told? Look at your calendar over the next month. When can you create your own adventure to get to wear it?
